BIO
Gin Lammert is best known for her incredible ability to capture the likeness and essence of individuals and animals in portrait work. She expands the same energy in all her creating, be it a landscape, portrait or still life painting. Her work has been labeled "Treasures from the Heart" by both private and corporate collectors that reside through out the United States, Europe, and Japan.
The artist's signature has changed three times during her career, marking distinct growth periods of work. There are a few rare pieces signed in her madden name of South, followed by a body of work that spans 27 years as Ginny Sorak, and now since 2001 as Gin Lammert. She currently resides in the small community of Pulaski in SouthEast Iowa with her husband Keith and their cat Wabbles.
Gin's work has also evolved from precision pencil drawings to a more impressionistic style of painting that uses strokes of color in different value tones. These strokes are placed carefully next to each other to create form on canvas or paper. Her paintings and drawings not only reflect her surroundings, but include ideas inspired by dreams and the desire to create visual expressions from literature or music. She feels all the humanities are intertwined and each plays a significant part in our soul's creative process.
It can easily be stated that Gin's art career began her junior year in high school. She has exchanged her creations with fellow artists and art lovers for over 40 years. Since 1978, she has enjoyed participating in juried fine art shows that are held across the Midwest United States. Currently her work is included in fine art gallery representation. Her works can be seen in one person exhibits, invitational group shows, and fundraisers for charitable causes. She also shares the knowledge of her craft by giving workshops and demonstrations.
In 1998, Gin was introduced to the world of Stained Glass. She immediatly took to glass painting during her apprenticeship at Bovard Studio in Fairfield, IA. Relocating farther south in the state of Iowa, Gin has been able to continue her love of painting on glass and creating designs by working for nationally acclaimed Hershey Stained Glass Studio of Milton, IA. The restoration of church windows, as well as creation of new windows, is the primary focus of this glass studio. You may view their work at www.hersheystudio.com. On this studio's home page is an image of an Angel reading to two birds. The design and painting was done by Gin with Kevin Hershey as the glass cutter and builder of this window. It's size is approx. 72"x36". Gin is also an expert at re-creating Munich Style windows. This style is best known as Stained Glass windows of the late 19th and 20th Century.
